THE DEVIL'S CUP STORY

Devil's Cup Coffee is a roastery specialising in fair trade and organic coffee.

Founded in 2002 by coffee roaster Kevin Murrow, Devil's Cup aims to produce the best tasting coffee for our customers, while supporting small scale co-operative coffee farmers.  All of our beans are sourced directly by Trade Aid New Zealand to ensure we are buying ethically and sustainably.

In April 2018 The Bank Room opened to the public. A collaboration between Devil's Cup and resident printmaker MB Stoneman, it offers good espresso, wholesale beans and an art gallery within a restored historic BNZ bank building in Patea.

Devil's Cup is featured in the 2018 Lonely Planet's Global Coffee Tour book, a taster's guide to the world's best coffee experiences.

Devil's Cup supplies cafes, bars and businesses as well as individual customers throughout New Zealand.  All supply enquiries are welcome.

"I have been working with coffee for half my life. I started out as a barista in the mid 90's in New Zealand, which got me into roasting coffee for myself, first on an old toasted sandwich maker then on popcorn makers. In 2000 I was lucky enough to get a job working with my friend Danny at a commercial coffee roastery in London's Portobello Road. It was called The Tea and Coffee Plant and at the time it sold the largest selection of organic and Fairtrade coffee in the UK. It was here I learnt to blend and to roast coffee on a commercial basis.

When I returned to New Zealand I was unable to find a job roasting coffee so in 2002 I set up Devil's Cup with the intention of selling only Organic Fair Trade Coffee.

In 2004 my wife and I brought an old bank building in Patea, South Taranaki. It's  become our home and the home of Devil's Cup.  We opened The Bank Room in the front room on 2018 as a kinda 'showroom' for what we do.

Devil's Cup has been growing now solidly for 16 years, mainly because of the customers who have somehow found my coffee and like it enough to keep ordering it."
